cPanel Backups

Net Solutions offers our cPanel hosting clients a fully automated remote backup solution. This system does exactly as the name describes – it backs up your data in three geographically displaced locations.

We have implemented this system because we felt it would greatly benefit our customers to know their data could be recoverable in the event of a catastrophic failure (i.e. the hard drive on their server dies, etc).

Every client of Net Solutions cPanel Web Hosting is protected by this system, regardless of what hosting plan you have with us.

How does it Work?

Every night a backup file is generated of all your files, databases, and email (basically everything you have put on our servers). Backups of your data is then stored in several places:

  • On the primary server (allowing you to download and recover your data from cPanel any time)
  • On a seondary remote server that is geographically displaced from the primary
  • On a teriary remote server that is geographically displaced from the primary and secondary
  • On a quaternary remote server that is geographically displaced from the primary and secondary and teriary

The remote backup locations use several data centres located in Australia, Europe and United States. The backup servers are highly protected by firewalls and can only be directly access via virtual private network (VPN) or by being physically at the server. This keeps your backups in a highly secure location.

Additionally, we generated 3 different backup files – Daily, Weekly, and Monthly. Sometimes when you need a backup, a restoration to 24 hours ago may not resolve your problem. So you can get backups up to a week old, as well as up to 30 days old.

How do I get the Backup Files?

In the first instance you can get your daily, weekly, or monthly backups from the primary server by logging into cPanel and clicking on the Backups icon.

If you need the remote backup, simply submit a support ticket stating which backup file you need (daily, weekly, or monthly). We will download it to your cPanel to make it available for you shortly after.

Why do a Remote Backups System?

There are times when a local backup copy will not suffice. Usually this is when a hardware failure happens (i.e. the primary hard drive on the server dies). In this particular situation, the local backups are not available, so your data is lost unless you have downloaded a backup recently. So we created this program to add an extra layer of reassurance for our customers.

Important Legal Notices

Below are a few important items that we advise all of our clients to read and understand.

Download Your Own Backups

We strongly recommend all customers download a backup of their data occasionally and store it somewhere safe. While this new remote offsite backup service should ensure your data can be recoverable, it is always highly recommended that you have a backup of your data stored somewhere. All you need to do is login to cPanel, click on Backups, then click on ‘Generate or Download a Full Backup’. You’ll be given the current backups that are available and can select which one to download.

At the very minimum, we recommend performing full backups of your data every 30 days just to be safe.

Limitations

We cannot guarantee the integrity of your data. While we will make every effort to protect your data, we make no guarantees and will not be held accountable if there is a problem with the integrity of your backup files.
